Knutsford 5 Linotype Cheadle 1
ON the day they lifted the Cheshire League Premier Division trophy, Knutsford produced a rampant second-half display to hammer third-placed Linotype Cheadle.
After they went into half-time behind, Reds stormed back after the break thanks to goals from Nehru McKenzie, Joe Hare, Sean Lynch, Ben Brooks and David Owens.
The hosts started strongly, but fell behind against the run of play thanks to a goal from Liam Millen.
The champions refused to let it put them off their stride, though, and they continued to control proceedings.
However, they could not create anything clear-cut and went into half-time trailing.
Knutsford continued to dominate and they duly equalised on the hour mark when McKenzie rose highest to head home Dean Warburton’s free kick.
That proved the catalyst for an avalanche of Knutsford goals, with a corner falling nicely for Hare to smash home his first goal of the season.
Shortly afterwards, Owens’ cross found Lynch at the far post and he headed home Reds’ third goal inside seven minutes.
They were not finished there as Brooks beat the Cheadle goalkeeper to a long ball and slid home the hosts’ fourth goal.
Owens provided the icing on the cake, controlling Lynch’s cross before turning and firing into the far corner.
Knutsford: Jenyons, Jones (Pearson), Lynch, Hare, Brotherton (Beattie), Yuille, Warburton, McKenzie, Owens, Harrison (Myers), Brooks.
