A COACH hopes the success of junior players at High Legh Tennis Club will inspire others to follow their lead.

The Knutsford club was represented by teams in three finals at the end of the Point-One Winter League campaign, and prevailed in two of them.

“They played with great spirit, always encouraging each other,” said Emma Silcock, head of tennis.

“It’s an outstanding achievement to reach all of the age-group finals, and this amazingly-talented and committed bunch is getting better all the time.

“This is just the start; we’ve so many up and coming young players who are showing promise.”

A mixed under 10s team proved too strong for opponents from David Lloyd Cheshire Oaks, recording an 8-4 win.

Mickey Smutney, Marco Greig, Zach Thompson, Daniel Kilcoyne and Susanna Thompson played for High Legh.

Meanwhile the under nines were convincing 14-6 victors against David Lloyd Manchester North in their final.

In that line-up, Nathan Warner and Arthur Gething joined forces with Susanna, Mickey and Marco.

High Legh’s under eights played out a thrilling final with their David Lloyd Cheadle counterparts in front of a large crowd.

And the rivals could only be separated on points countback after playing out a draw.

Leon Moreton, Oliver Dobson, Charlie Warburton, Marco Kirkos and Skye Thomas all played a part.

Silcock added: “I’m so proud of how they all performed.”
