Northwich 3rd 14-22 Knutsford
KNUTSFORD continued a pursuit of their rivals for promotion by recording a hard-fought victory at Northwich thirds last weekend.
Blues will hope to repeat the trick on Saturday when their neighbours make the turn trip to Knutsford Academy, kick-off 3pm.
They start that contest sitting third in North West Intermediate League Division Four South, three points adrift of second-placed Moore.
And a first meeting with the men from Moss Farm served a warning that their opponents will not roll over.
Knutsford contributed to their own problems too, and they trailed 14-10 at the break after Northwich punished mistakes made by the visitors.
However a second-half rally secured a bonus-point success.
Liam Boyle, Dan Jones, Chris Edmonds and Jan Minar?ík, who was named afterwards as the visitors’ man of the match, scored Knutsford’s tries.
They have now prevailed in 15 of their 20 league fixtures.
Edmonds said: “It was a tough game, and we were disjointed after late cry-offs left us with 15 players and no replacements.
“Dan deserves a special mention, as does Matt Cornes, for their powerful carries while Ric Jones improvised well as a stand-in fly-half.”
Three of Knutsford’s remaining matches are on their own pitch.
After Saturday, Knutsford play Whitchurch thirds home and away either side of hosting Oswestry seconds.
