THERE are new names on the Knutsford and District Amateur League’s roll of honour following the Bert Astles Memorial Pairs final at Mere last week.

Shaw Heath duo Jamie Way and Dave Mullins edged out Bruce Tulley and Mark Newall, from Mobberley, to take the title for the first time.

It means they become numbers 146 and 147 on a list of players to have prevailed in a knockout competition during the league’s 67-year history.

Way and Mullins ended the run of pairs specialists Gary Long and Bob Jones (Brook Street) in the semi-finals.

The withdrawal of father and son tandem Mark and Laughlan Anderson meant Tulley and Newall had a bye into the showpiece.
