Macclesfield Ladies 2nd 0-2 Knutsford Ladies

KNUTSFORD’S practice in training paid off when the Cheshire Women’s League season resumed last weekend.

The completed a double over Macclesfield’s seconds thanks after scoring twice from rehearsed routines at a short-corner.

For the first, Sarah Fielding dragged the ball out to Liz Ball at the top of the circle.

She returned it back from where it came from, and Gill Lunt was perfectly-positioned at the back post to divert Fielding’s cross into the net.

The visitors started the second-half sluggishly although Katie Price, returning to action from time off while she had a baby, motivated her teammates to raise their game.

And they put the contest out of their hosts’ reach following another short-corner, this time lifted high past the goalkeeper by Ball.

Knutsford’s defence was tested when Macc attempted to respond, and they had to work hard to keep a clean-sheet.

A final chance went the visitors’ way from another short-corner, and a slick move ended with what they thought was a third goal.

However it was disallowed by the umpire because the ball had not hit the backboard.

Net-minder Lucy White played her part at the other end, making important saves when her teammates had started to tire.

A victory leaves them fifth in Division Two ahead of a trip to lowly Runcorn on Saturday, push-back midday.
