Oswestry Ladies 0-3 Knutsford Ladies 3
KNUTSFORD did not allow the absence of several regulars to deter them from extending an unbeaten run in the Cheshire Women’s League to five matches.
They changed formation, and incorporated junior section graduates Lily Wasilewska, Jess Flack and Maisie Jardine.
It worked a treat too.
Sarah Fielding’s perseverance earned the reward of an opening goal after the home team’s goalkeeper had saved Liz Ball’s initial attempt from a short-corner.
Buoyed from taking the lead, Knutsford continued to apply pressure.
A second goal duly arrived, this time when Millie Fitton whipped a shot through the net-minder’s legs after the ball had been deflected into her path.
Oswestry attempted to recover on the counter, although they were fortunate not to fall further behind when Gill Lunt’s cross flew across the face of goal without a decisive touch.
Knutsford custodian Lucy White was alert when called upon, while Lucie Hinton marshalled the visitors’ defence with a series of important interceptions.
They added to their tally before full-time too, again from a short-corner routine, when Elin Rees’ strike looped over a stranded goalkeeper after deflecting off a defender’s stick.
A trip to fifth-placed Bebington awaits on Saturday, push-back midday.
