Neston Ladies 2nd 1-1 Knutsford Ladies

KNUTSFORD came from behind on Saturday to earn a deserved share of the spoils from a close encounter with Neston.

Their equaliser was worth the wait as well, with Gill Lunt spinning cleverly before squeezing the ball home after receiving it with her back to goal following fine approach play on the left wing by Sarah Fielding and Elin Rees.

Buoyed, they kept out their opponents for the remainder of a contest that concluded with junior section member Lily Wasilewska making an appearance at centre-forward.

The home team had applied relentless pressure to Knutsford’s defence before the break, and took the lead by forcing an error that turned over possession.

Their forward was well-placed to apply a finishing touch when a cross from the right reached her.

Coach Hadrian Caldwell’s pep talk during the interval had the desired effect though, and the visitors recovered to claim a point from the Cheshire Women’s League encounter.

Leigh Carroll-Jones’ impressive defending earned for her a vote from the hosts as Knutsford’s best player.

They return to action at Knutsford Leisure Centre, on Westfield Drive, this Saturday when Chester’s thirds visit.

Push-back is at midday.
