Crewe Vagrants Ladies 2nd 1-1 Knutsford Ladies
KNUTSFORD claimed a share of the spoils after a tense meeting with Crewe Vagrants’ seconds ended level at the weekend.
The visitors attempted to protect an advantage given to them by Millie Fitton’s goal shortly after the interval, only for the home team to restore parity during the closing stages.
Goalkeeper Lucy White, protected by a defensive unit that included Liz Ball, Amanda Rees, Lucie Hinton and Sarah Crabtree, made a string of saves in the opening period.
The home team’s back-line held firm at the other end too.
Knutsford broke through 10 minutes after half-time when Fitton pushed a pass over the line with a reverse-stick action.
Crewe players protested that the ball had crossed the baseline before reaching the attacker, but the umpires turned down their appeal after a lengthy discussion.
Knutsford lost a player to the sin bin as punishment for foul play, although they stayed in front.
However their opponents did claim an equaliser at the end of a counter-attack, a smart finish leaving White with no chance to make a save.
The away side fought hard to stay on terms, although their task was made harder when a second team-member was shown a yellow card for deliberately pushing away the ball after the action had been stopped for a foul.
They held on though.
Golborne visit Westfield Drive on Saturday, when push-back is at midday.
