A BATTING collapse cost Knutsford a chance to record a victory in the Cheshire League at Tranmere Victoria on Saturday.

Chasing a modest 126 to win, the visitors had reason to feel optimistic after openers Imran Ali (29) and Khayaam Ali (21) put on 49 for the first wicket.

However the next nine fell for just 18 as they slumped to a surprise 58-run reverse in a Division Four encounter.

Daniel Hamm (6-11) and Ben England (4-30) did the damage for the home team.

Earlier, Knutsford sent back their opponents for 125 after winning the toss.

Rana Saqlain, with 6-26 off 13 overs, was their star turn.

He had support from captain Adeel Bhatti, who took 2-43 to increase his tally for the campaign to 21, and Darren Longden (2-13).

Trafford are due at Mereheath Lane this Saturday, from 1.30pm.
