A GOLFER from Knutsford will play at a Ryder Cup venue in September as a reward for reaching the final stages of a national competition.
Martyn Hall, a member at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club in Northwich, progressed through a qualifier for the American Golf Senior Championships with playing partner Trevor Wilkes.
It keeps the duo in contention for overall honours when they take on rivals from across the UK over two days at the Belfry, in Sutton Coldfield, later this year.
They carded 43 points in a preliminary at their home club, edging out a Yorkshire tandem by a single-point margin.
“It’s great to know we’ll have guys representing Cheshire at the national finals,” said Stephen Pither, American Golf manager at Knutsford’s High Legh Park.
“We’ve got a fantastic golfing community locally, and I’m happy that American Golf gives them a chance to play at such an iconic venue.”
