TALENTED Knutsford hockey youngster Archie Phillips is celebrating after earning a call-up to represent his country.

After coming through several trials, the 16-year-old is named in the England under 16s squad for games against Holland, Belgium and Germany.

Phillips, who attends King’s School in Macclesfield, is described as a quick, incisive and combative midfield player who is expected to start in an attacking midfield role in the game versus Holland at Lilleshall.

He plays senior hockey for the men’s first team at Bowdon and will sit his GCSEs in the summer.

“Archie is one of a number of talented players who have the determination and drive to succeed,” King’s hockey coach Steve Moores said.

“He’s been one to watch since he joined us aged just 11-years-old and we wish him every success in his England jersey.

“It will be a proud moment for Archie and his family.”
