JIMMY Evans believes Knutsford may need to win all but one of their remaining matches to retain a Cheshire League title they won last season.

Reds’ chairman told the Guardian that Scott Dignan’s side are aiming to reach 70 points, which would require nine wins from 10 games left to play.

“It’s down to us,” he said.

“We need to help ourselves, get our best players out on the field as often as possible and stick to what we’re best at which is to move the ball quickly.

“When we do that, we win on 99 per cent of occasions.”

The weather continues to prevent Knutsford from gathering momentum, and they were hit by another postponement last weekend when a trip to Eagle was aborted after heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged.

It means they have played only twice in the past eight weeks.

They start this Saturday’s home date with Linotype, the Premier Division champions two years ago, sat third in the table.

Leaders Whaley Bridge are eight points better off, but Knutsford have three games in hand.

Their resources, particularly in defence, will be tested in the coming weeks though with skipper Steve Jenyons likely to be missing with a knee injury.

Graeme Brotherton is away, while Jake Maunder will serve a suspension as punishment for his dismissal in a 2-1 win against Poynton last time out.

However they were boosted by new recruit Dec Butler, signed from Curzon Ashton the previous week, scoring in his debut in that game.

Kick off on Saturday is 3pm.
