MOBBERLEY A duo Paul Adkin and Mark Newall, a two-time winner, secured a place at the Redwood Hire Champions Trophy finals day after coming through a high-quality preliminary on Sunday.

They joined the rest of the top 16 ranked players in Division One at Victory Hall, where Dave Whalley (Alderley Union) racked up a 43 break in the first round.

Steve Flinders (Mobberley A) went on point better, only for clubmate – and last year’s winner – Bruce Tulley to post a run of 60 later on.

However none of them progressed to the next stage.

A qualifier for the leading Division Two players is scheduled at the same venue this weekend.
