Triton 4-3 Knutsford

AFTER overturning a two-goal deficit to take the lead, Knutsford will feel they missed an opportunity to reach the Cheshire Men’s Plate final on Saturday.

Instead they crashed out after conceding late against lower-ranked opponents.

That outcome will have felt far away after Triton took the lead from their first attack of the game, then doubled it when punishing sloppy defending.

Tom Wright, the Black Knight’s goalkeeper, was then shown a yellow card, and attacker Jonny Price filled in between the posts during his absence.

The visitors’ recovery started shortly afterwards, when captain Dave Price sent the hosts’ net-minder the wrong way from a flick.

Knutsford then drew level when Stuart Kenyon smashed in a loose ball from the top of the D.

Restored to a full complement, the visitors dominated the opening exchanges of the second half.

They prompted Triton’s number one to make a string of fine saves, a feat matched by Wright at the other end when he made amends for his earlier indiscretion by blocking a penalty stroke to his right.

Spurred, Knutsford edged ahead for the first time when Graeme Wolfenden spun and shot with force in the same slick movement to make it 3-2.

It did not last, and Triton restored parity after their guests turned over possession at the top of their circle.

They secured victory, and with it a final date with Lymm, when converting from a rebound with time running out.

Knutsford return to league action on Saturday, January 7.

Knutsford turn their attention back to the North West League when they host Liverpool Sefton in a rearranged Division One fixture on Saturday, January 7.
