OLIVER Webb is confident he can stand on the podium again when he takes part in the Dubai 24-hour race next month.

The Knutsford driver celebrated a victory two years ago before a storming drive from the back of the grid in a Mercedes earned him second spot with Black Falcon in the 2016 edition.

He will race for another German outfit, Leipert Motorsport, in a Lamborghini Huracan on his return to the Dubai Autodrome.

The 25-year-old helped them to second in class on his debut at the annual event.

He said: “I’ve always enjoyed competing there; Dubai is a city I love to visit, and it’s a great way to kick off a new year.

“I’ve done well there in the past, and I’m determined to preserve a 100 per cent record I have of getting on the podium.”

Webb will share driving duty for Leipert with fellow Briton Jake Rattenbury, Canadian Jean-Charles Perrin and Harald Schlotter, from Germany.

They contest the SPX class.

In this year’s edition, he and his teammates steered a show model Mercedes, converted from scratch to a racing machine, from the back of a 98-strong field after their first car was engulfed by flames during practice.

However they claimed second spot at the finish after a rival in front suffered gearbox failure late on.

Webb makes his next trip to the Middle East buoyed by helping Swiss outfit ByKolles to second in the World Endurance Championship finale at Bahrain last month.

They finished third overall in the LMP1 class for privateer teams.

The Dubai 24-hour race is scheduled to start on Friday, January 13.
