KNUTSFORD face their most testing trip of the season so far on Saturday, when they head to unbeaten leaders Keswick.

The Cumbrians have won five of their eight North West Men’s League encounters to date, and occupy first place on goal difference from Urmston.

However the Black Knights could close to within a point of their hosts if they return home with maximum points.

A frozen pitch at Knutsford Leisure Centre prevented them from hosting Liverpool Sefton last weekend, but they head north on the M6 buoyed by beating Wigan last time out.

Mat Hodge scored twice, while Simon Lock and Jonny Price were on target too, in a 4-0.

It put behind them back-to-back defeats against Bowdon’s thirds (0-1) and Didsbury Northern’s seconds (2-3).

“That was a great result,” said David Price, Knutsford’s first-team captain.

“Our defence played their part, restricting Wigan’s forwards to very few chances.

“That allowed our midfield to dominate, which is how we created opportunities of our own to score.”

His side can take heart from the fact they’ve collected as many points, and scored as many goals, on their travels as they have at Westfield Drive.

Keswick have been in formidable form at home, winning four of their five matches.

Surprisingly, back-markers Southport secured a draw in the other game.

Price added: “We had a plan against Wigan, and it worked.

“We have to be confident we can put Keswick under the same sort of sustained pressure.”

Push back on Saturday is at 12.30pm.
