Bowdon 3rd 1-0 Knutsford 0

FORTUNE did not favour Knutsford on Saturday, when a late deflected goal condemned them to a second successive defeat.

It also marks the first time this season the Black Knights have failed to score themselves.

A visit from lowly Wigan this weekend, push back 2.15pm, provides an opportunity to get their campaign back on track.

The decisive moment against Bowdon arrived with less than five minutes left.

The hosts took quickly a free hit, teeing up a midfielder whose shot deflected off Simon Locke to leave goalkeeper Tom Wright with no chance to make a save.

Knutsford slip to sixth in the North West Men’s League as a result.

They made a short trip in confident mood, boosted by the return of Danny Butterworth and Mat Hodge.

And the visitors, prompted by Stuart Kenyon, Simon Trenbirth and Tom Howard from midfield, had more possession.

However they struggled to make a final pass stick.

It’s a pattern that continued into the second half, when their best chances fell to Jonny Price.

He forced a super save from the home team’s goalkeeper, while another attempt flashed over.

Bowdon broke through shortly afterwards, and on this occasion the men from Westfield Drive could not conjure a late equaliser.

Wigan, beaten in six of their seven matches to date, won only once in 20 Division One matches last term.
