Holmes Chapel 2nd 14-55 Knutsford

KNUTSFORD put behind them the disappointment of suffering a first league defeat of the season when they won at neighbours Holmes Chapel’s seconds on Saturday.

Blues’ performed better than previously at set pieces, boosted at the scrum by Dan Jones’ return while Rob Bentham delivered an improved display at hooker.

They took the lead at Station Road when skipper Sam Bensky off-loaded to Jon Fuller, who dotted down between the posts.

With regular kicker Alex Malcolm nursing an injury, the full-back converted his own try.

Chapel restored parity when Jake Harrison claimed a try, converted by Doug Canavan, only for the floodgates to open at the other end.

Malcolm crossed the whitewash three times, as well as earning a penalty try, while Fuller and Sam Cook also added their names to the score-sheet.

The hosts had the final say, when Ed O’Hare bounced over for a second score – again converted by Canavan – before full-time.

Knutsford coach Mike Davies hailed the individual performances of Ted Parr and Sam Hudson in defence, something he will want to see again when his side visits Old Bedians thirds on Saturday week, November 12.

Blues report for training tomorrow, Thursday, on the all-weather surface at Knutsford Leisure Centre from 7pm.
