MARK Bushell is the first player in the Knutsford and District Amateur League to get his hands on a piece of silverware this season.

The Mere member emerged as a victor in the Jack Tulley Young Player of the Year competition at his home club, pipping Peter Jackson to the first prize.

Mark’s brother Jack, crowned as champion in 2015, and James Owen also took part in a round robin tournament to decide the overall winner.

“Our future is in safe hands if the standards on show at the weekend are anything to go by,” said league secretary Tony Crompton.

On Thursday, champions Mobberley A extended their lead at the top of Division One to six points following a 5-2 win at Tatton.

Closest-rivals Alderley Union suffered a first defeat of the campaign, but stay second despite losing by the same score at Shaw Heath.

Wilmslow Cons A restricted their hosts Morley to a single frame, while improving Brook Street A – whitewashed in the opening round – extended a winning sequence to three matches when they beat Mobberley B on aggregate.

Wilmslow Cons B are the only side in Division Two able to boast of an unblemished record after beating Mere B.

Mobberley D climb the table after a comfortable 6-1 success against back-markers Mere C, as do Mere A after they saw off Brook Street B by the same score.

In the other match played, Wilmslow RBL proved too strong for their guests Mobberley C.
