EGERTON'S commitment to improving footballers of all ages has earned the club a coveted prize.

The Knutsford outfit will receive an FA Charter Standard Community Club award during Cheshire FA's annual presentation evening on Friday - the highest accreditation the game's governing body can give to a grassroots club.

They will be shortlisted for a regional honour as a result.

"Egerton are a football club that constantly strive for excellence," said Simon Gerrard, chief executive at Cheshire FA.

"They continually look for new ways to get better and develop all aspects of what they do, providing a great environment for young players.

"Their mantra of trying to provide inclusive football for everybody should be commended."

Egerton were granted community charter standard status in 2007 in recognition of their work with children on the training pitch.

Two prizes followed at the 2015 Cheshire FA awards for 3G artificial pitch of the year and development programme of the year - the latter for a project with Cheshire Down's Syndrome Support Group at the club's home on Mereheath Lane.

"We strive to be the best, both on and off the pitch, by teaching all of our players important life-skills such as discipline, communication and decision-making," said chairman Tom O'Donnell.

"This latest award directly reflects our members' hard work - it's a proud moment."

Egerton is offering free taster sessions for new junior players throughout June.
