CARL Prince potted the black to beat Andy Long, a former classmate at high school, in a Knutsford and District Amateur League final on Sunday.

The Brook Street B man played a stylish cross double at the end of a close contest to take home the Taylor Trophy for a second time after edging his clubmate at Mobberley Victory Hall.

Prince, a victor two years ago, had proved too strong for Wayne Hammond (Mobberley B) in the last four, while Long needed a fluke black to be separated from Adrian Hough.

The competition, for over 55s, attracted a 16-strong field.

MORLEY duo Arthur Faux and Dave Whalley emerged as victors at the end of a tactical Bert Astles Memorial Pairs final.

They edged a safety battle on the pink in the first frame of a head-to-head with clubmates Rod Bird and Mike Richmond, then produced a trio fantastic pots under pressure to clinch the second.

Bird and Richmond had squeezed past Morley tandem Brian Foden and Richard Buxton in the last four, while Faux and Whalley received a bye following the withdrawal of Wilmslow Cons' John Higgins and Charlie Williams.
