Pilkington 4 Egerton 3

EGERTON fought back three times to level on Saturday, only to concede a late winner.

Yellows slip into the Cheshire League One relegation zone as a result, leaving co-manager Graham Egerton to concede they now face a battle for survival.

"We're in a position we shouldn't be," he said.

"But we need to roll up our sleeves as a group and dig out way out of the trouble we're in."

The visitors dominated the opening exchanges. but fluffed the chances they created.

Instead midfielder Andy Mines put Pilks in front against the run of play.

Three goals then followed in a four-minutes spell, with strikes from Chris Trowbridge and Andy Brown sandwiching one from Jake Worrall for the home team.

Pilkington edged ahead a third time on 70 minutes, when substitute Josh Woodhall fired past Chris Davies after attempts from two teammates had been blocked.

Refusing to accept defeat, Egerton equalised again when Rory Pownall headed in a free kick he won with a driving run.

However Matty Taylor pinched the points for Pilks when he ran clear to score with five minutes left.

Egerton reflected: "We're gutted - we had enough opportunities to win three games, and really have to look at ourselves.

"We have to be more clinical up top, and more resolute in defence when under pressure."

Egerton host AFC Macclesfield in the JA Walton Challenge Cup this Saturday, kick off 2pm.
