OLIVER Webb stood on the podium at the end of his debut endurance race in Thailand at the weekend.

The Knutsford driver helped title-hopefuls Team Race Performance to third place in the LMP2 class during the Asian Le Mans Series' round at Buriram International Circuit.

"It would have been great to start 2016 with a win," he said afterwards.

"We had consistently good pace, but ultimately it wasn't enough."

Webb joined forces with Nicolas Leutwiler on his first appearance for the Swiss outfit, and the duo recorded the third fastest time in their category during qualifying.

The 24-year-old swiftly moved to second in the three-hour race behind the wheel of his Oreca 03 R Judd, taking a class lead before handing over to his teammate.

Leutwiler held his own against more experienced rivals and remained at the front with 20 minutes left.

However he had to focus on saving fuel for the remainder, and dropped down to third by the finish.

It keeps Team Race Performance at the top of the LMP2 standings ahead of the final round at Sepang, in Malaysia, later this month.

Webb added: "I'm happy for the team, and I thoroughly enjoyed Thailand - the turnout from the fans was incredible."

He turns his attention next to this weekend's Dubai 24-hour race, when he hopes to retain a title he claimed 12 months ago in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 machine prepared by Germany-based Black Falcon.

Webb is part of a five-strong line-up that shares driving duty in the same car.
