Tarleton Colts 18 Knutsford Colts 14
KNUTSFORD Colts lost narrowly lost at Tarleton in the most competitive Cheshire Colts League match to date.
Knutsford weathered the initial Tarleton onslaught and gradually eased out of their half and the ever impressive Luke Shaw scored to give them an initial 7-0 lead, following Fergus Grieves’ extras.
Tarleton came back strongly but the Knutsford defence held firm. However two penalties and a breakaway try gave the hosts a five-point lead.
Jack Wales and Sam Nanda were outstanding in loose play and Ben Mottershead the pick of the backs in his first outing at fly half.
However it was no surprise that the Blues’ second try was scored by Grieves, who capped a brilliant performance at centre with a try between the posts which he converted to give Knutsford the lead.
But with 10 minutes to go Tarleton moved ahead with another opportunistic try, and despite being camped on Tarleton’s line for a thrilling last few minutes the Blues could not secure the vital score need.
Next Sunday sees the Blues in action at home in the Cheshire Cup against local rivals Bowdon.
