CRICKETERS at a Knutsford club have agreed to host a prestigious cup final next summer.

The Cheshire County League's annual T20 tournament, sponsored by Joseph Holt Brewery, will conclude for the first time at Toft.

"They applied, and we feel it is an ideal venue," said league chairman David Humpage.

"It's a break with recent custom to stage the event at club with only one pitch, but it's centrally-located, and has ample parking space.

"They also have a a good playing area, the ability to cater for four teams and covers that can protect the entire square if it rains."

Finals day has been fixed for Sunday, July 10, with games due to start at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

If the weather prompts a postponement, they will take place a fortnight later.

Joseph Holt Brewery have agreed to support the competition for a second year by providing prizes for the best group-stage performances as well as covering the cost of hosting the closing stages.

"We're delighted to be involved again," said representative Toby Drummond, who is also first-team skipper at Booth's Park.

Toft reached the final of this year's edition, losing a rain-interrupted head-to-head at Upton with Premier Division rivals Chester Boughton Hall.

They are the seeded side in Group Three for the 2016 version, with Alvanley, Davenham and Middlewich completing the line-up.

A total of 34 clubs have entered.

Mobberley, in Group One, will take on Hyde, Cheadle Hulme and Sale.

The first fixtures are scheduled for May 12.
