Altrincham res 1 Egerton 2

EGERTON rose from the Cheshire League One relegation zone after recording victory against promotion-chasing hosts.

Goals from Thomas Hampton and Luke Morgan cancelled out Joel Swift’s opener for Altrincham to earn Yellows only a their second win of the season.

"We battled hard until the end of the game," said management duo Graham Egerton and Ben Smith.

"It was a spirited performance by everybody; the boys who came on were equally as good as those who came off.

"We deserved to win; hopefully now we can push up the table."

The Robins' second string, who play home matches at Egerton's Mereheath Lane home, took the lead when Swift applied the finishing touch to a flowing team move.

However they were not ahead for long, Hampton heading in Chris Trowbridge's cross to level.

Yellows continued to create chances, helped by Tom Arnold and Chris Freitas retrieving possession in the middle of the pitch.

And they found a way through in the second period when Morgan scored with a screamer, striking the ball on the half-volley with the outside of his left boot to score from distance.

Egerton, who climb to seventh in the table, protected their lead for the remaining minutes.

They turn their attention next to a Northern Cup first-round encounter with Abram, from Wigan, on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
