Egerton 0 Daten 1

EGERTON must take responsibility for their lack of goalscoring prowess after defeat to the league's bottom side, say the club's management duo.

Following back-to-back wins, Yellows were beaten 1-0 by Daten, who moved off the bottom of Cheshire League One and above their hosts as a result.

"For the first time this season we really have to look at ourselves and take responsibility for taking our chances," said Yellows' management team of Graham Egerton and Ben Smith.

"We have conceded just one goal from open play in our last three games, our best home performance this term has somehow ended with us losing the game.

"We have created enough chances to win two games and at the moment and we aren't as sharp in front of goal as we need to be."

Aaron Kelly, Aaron Best and Andrew Brown all wasted guilt-edged opportunities before the break, while a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing cost Yellows dearly.

The second half began with Best going close but sending his effort wide.

Daten then took the lead after Tom Hampton brought down a forward in the box.

Egerton stopper Chris Davies pulled off a great save but the taker swept home the rebound – the penalty save was the only work the Egerton stopper had to do all afternoon.

The hosts introduced Simon Roberts, Ashley Wells and Luke Morgan and a mazy run from the former drew a good save, while Morgan twice beat the full back to fire across goal.

Egerton thought they had levelled with five minutes remaining, with the ball appearing to have crossed the line from a corner, but the referee awarded a free kick to the visitors.

Egerton take on leaders Altrincham reserves on Saturday.
