EGERTON'S search for a first win of the new Cheshire League season was due to enter a fifth game at Wythenshawe Town last night, Tuesday.

They were on course for a maximum-points haul at the weekend, only for Joshua Taffe's late leveller to deny them.

However management duo Graham Egerton and Ben Smith were positive after seeing the right reaction to a 3-0 defeat at Maine Road reserves in midweek.

"The response was great to see from our point of view," they said.

"Unfortunately we didn't get what we deserved, but the lads battled hard and played some good football.

"Not finishing chances, plus a little naivety, has cost us."

The Knutsford outfit had chances during the early exchanges, Aaron Best sending off-target the clearest one before Chris Trowbridge fired wide from an acute angle.

However the Yellows' dominance earned deserved reward when a switch of play from one side of the field to another left Andrew Brown with the task of lifting a cute finish over goalkeeper Thomas Darbyshire.

A crazy spell followed, during which Taffe's mazy dribble ended with him claiming an equaliser.

Egerton quickly restored their lead, this time when Thomas Arnold turned in a corner at the back post to claim his first goal of the campaign.

The hosts could not hold on though, and Taffe earned Golborne - 2-1 victors when the teams met on the season's opening day - a share of the spoils.
