SKIPPER Shaun Hudson scored a maiden century for Knutsford seconds to help his side beat Mossley by 33 runs in the Cheshire Alliance on Saturday.

He shared in a fourth-wicket partnership worth 95 runs with Muhammad Roshan (74) as the visitors ran up 219-7 after winning the toss.

Abin Abraham (26no) hit two fours, and as many sixes, in a quick-fire innings lower down the order.

Mossley were dismissed for 186 in reply, pace-man James Derbyshire (4-64) and Rob Vaughan (4-42) doing most of the damage before Hudson held onto a match-clinching catch off the bowling of Sam Wood (1-33).

Meanwhile the first team’s scheduled Division Two encounter with Eastham was conceded by their opponents.

Holmes Chapel remain in contention to be promoted from Division One following a 28-run win at Tranmere, where they scored 183-9.

Glenn Tift (49) narrowly missed out on a half-century at the top of the order before an unbroken partnership for the 10th wicket worth 70 between Krish Bhardwa (35no) and Mohammed Atef (48no).

Tranmere were knocked over for 155, with Jonny Price (4-57) and Atef (3-17) the leading wicket-takers.

Mobberley remain third in Cheshire County League Division Two following a comfortable 64-run victory at Alvanley, where ex-Lancashire batsman Nathan Wood top-scored with 88.

He shared in stands worth 89 with Rob Spilsbury (37) and 53 with Mark Goodstadt (60no) in a tally of 248-5.

The hosts were all out for 184 after Charlie Nield (4-46) and Abdul Aqeel (4-68) combined in the visitors’ attack.

In the Cheshire League’s second tier, Ashley lost by four wickets at home to Oakmere.

The posted 157-9 at Railway Field and, despite Jake Cairns’ return of 4-63 after tea, they could not prevent the Northwich outfit from claiming victory.

Chelford scraped home by one wicket chasing 140 to beat Stockport Trinity in the same section, while Over Peover held out for a draw at home to Wilmslow in Division Three after Mark Nightingale (5-73) starred earlier in the day.
