Egerton 3 Billinge 3

EGERTON’S coaching staff hold high hopes for the season after a draw with Billinge on Saturday got them off the mark in Cheshire League One.

An Andrew Brown double, plus a goal for new signing Aaron Best, sealed a share of the points as Jamie Anderson, Elliot Bradshaw and Liam Roughley replied for the visitors.

“The lads were top drawer - there was so much improvement from last week [at Golborne],” said boss Graham Egerton.

"There are a lot of new faces this season, and we've changed the way we play too.

"It’s early days, but we have high hopes for this group and are looking forward to the season.”

Best tested Billinge goalkeeper Jamie Scott inside 10 seconds after shrugging off a visiting defender, and Egerton were rewarded for their early pressure when debutant Brown smashed home from close range.

He was at it again on 35 minutes, beating two defenders before sending a delightful chip over Scott.

Billinge got back into the game when a deflected pass found its way through the Egerton back-line and their front man did the rest.

The visitors then found a leveller after an hour, bundling the ball past Craig Worrall on the line.

The hosts hit back though through Best, who drove a low shot into the corner from 1inside the penalty area.

Substitute Rob Devine went close more than once too.

Ashley Wells, another replacement, saw his shot blocked on the line with time running out and Egerton were left to curse missing chances.

Billinge won a corner, and when the hosts' defence switched off, they tapped home a third goal.
