MOBBERLEY’S four-match winning run in the county league’s third tier was brought to an end by promotion-hopefuls Warrington on Saturday.

Put into bat, they posted 180-9 with Nathan Wood’s half-century a highlight as Brad McIntosh took 5-42 for the hosts.

In-form Abdul Aqeel (3-68) was again among the wickets for Mobberley, supported by Charlie Neild (2-45), but neither could stop Will Fleetwood (62no) from playing a match-winning innings for Warrington.

Knutsford lost by 31 runs to Styal in Cheshire Alliance Division Two, succumbing for 74 as they chased 106 to win.

Andy Tatton took 6-27.

Earlier, Rizwan Hasnain (3-39) and Asumon Ahmed (4-20) had done the damage for Knutsford after they had lost the toss.

Knutsford seconds’ scheduled encounter with Pott Shrigley was called off.

In Division One, leaders Stretton inflicted a heavy 117-run defeat on Holmes Chapel.

The table-toppers posted 257-5 after choosing to bat, with two players contributing half-centuries.

Chapel were knocked over for 140 in reply, with Jonny Price (71) accounting for half of their total while Stretton’s Umar Zeb took 4-25.

Ashley lost by six wickets at home to back-markers Woodford in the Cheshire League’s second tier.

Tommy Smith (25) was one of five batsmen to make a start, though none went on to make a big score in the hosts’ 123-8.

Woodford had the runs they needed by the 36th over.

Chelford lost by eight wickets at Bunbury in the same section, despite setting their opponents a target of 230 to win.

Over Peover hover a single point above the Division Three drop zone following a 46-run reverse at home to Wirral.

Needing 179 to win, they were dismissed for 132 at Well Bank Lane.
