MOBBERLEY edged a thriller at Northwich in the Cheshire County League on Saturday, when they celebrated a slender two-run success.

Put in by their hosts, the visitors to Moss Farm were bowled out for 115 by newly-arrived Sri Lankan Chaminda Ishanka (6-33).

Only Nathan Wood (54) and Charlie Nield (29) reached double figures.

However Mobberley were able to knock over Northwich for 113 after tea, Abdul Aqeel (6-44) and Nield (3-34) combining with the ball to secure a surprise victory.

It leaves them fourth in the latest Division Two table.

Ashley played out a tie with Kingsley in the Cheshire League’s second tier after posting 146-6.

Jake Cairns (85) and Rizwan Baig (21) added 85 runs for the fourth wicket at Railway Field, where the hosts had been put in.

But Kingsley’s innings closed on 146-8, with Cairns (4-32) and David Woods (3-46) the pick of an attack that prevented the visitors from pinching victory off the game’s final ball.

Chelford could not prevent table-toppers Lymm from recording a fourth successive win, this time by five wickets, when they met.

The hosts had totalled 183-6 after being invited to bat first, but Lymm secured victory in the 43rd over with Paul Tong (80) and Nafees Din (46) their leading scorers.

Over Peover’s scheduled head-to-head with Langley, in Division Three, was abandoned because of the wet weather.

Neither of Knutsford’s senior sides played in the Cheshire Alliance for the same reason.

Holmes Chapel shared the spoils with The Groves in the top flight.

Krish Bhardwa (59no) and Mark Rebbeck (41) helped to boost their team’s tally to 164-7 after they had won the toss.

The Groves’ reply limped to 117-7, with Andrew Thorburn, Neil Almond and Bhardwa taking two wickets each.
