Egerton 2 Middlewich Town 1

EGERTON ended a sequence of six Cheshire League One losses on the bounce by beating Middlewich Town on Saturday.

Chris Trowbirdge and Sean Mills goals gave the hosts their first league win since a 2-0 success at Tarporley on January 17.

“What a great performance from the lads,” said boss Graham Egerton. “The work on and off the ball was so pleasing to see after the run we have been on.

“The lads pulled together and ran themselves into the ground to secure a valuable three points.

“We also had parts of the game where we played very good football.”

The hosts hit the front inside a minute when Michael Evans and Ashley Wells combined to find Trowbridge, who smashed home at the far post.

A well-organised Egerton side almost made it two when Wells beat two men but could only crash his shot against the crossbar.

Benjamin Burrow and Evans also made the Middlewich keeper work as Egerton looked for a second.

The visitors had chances of their own, however, and it took a goalline clearance from man of the match Dom Egerton to send the hosts in at half time ahead.

A season-ending knee injury for Adam Fulker saw the game delayed for seven minutes, and shortly after Mike Evans levelled for the visitors.

Egerton continued to press for a winner and found it in the final minutes when Michael Evans’ corner was rifled in by substitute Mills.

Egerton visit Congleton Vale next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
