ADAM Jenkinson stood on the podium for the first time this season after finishing second in Sunday’s National Superstock 1000 Championship race at Brands Hatch.

The Knutsford rider made it past Alastair Seeley on the last lap to finish as runner-up on only his second outing on board Northern Escalator Installations’ new Yamaha R1 bike.

“The harder I rode it, the better it was,” he said afterwards.

“For the second part of the race, I was consistently the fastest on track which bodes well and shows the bike’s potential.

“Finishing second was a great way to end the weekend.”

Josh Elliott (Morello Kawasaki) took a maiden victory in the class, while Hudson Kennaugh (Trik-Moto BMW) crossed the line third ahead of James Rose (Moto-Breakers Kawasaki).

Jenkinson started from the grid’s second row after qualifying sixth fastest, climbing to fourth place by the sixth circuit.

He moved past Rose halfway through the 24-lap race, pursuing Seeley and Elliott for the remainder.

Jenkinson added: “I struggled with the set-up and we went the wrong way in the second qualifying session with the changes we made.

“That was a good thing because we discovered what worked and what didn't’.

“I made a bad start in the race, so needed a few hard moves on the likes of Hudson to get by.”

Jenkinson is third in the riders’ standings after two races.

The series moves to his home circuit Oulton Park, where he plans to test next week, on the first weekend in May.
