n Winnington Park 3rd 0 n Holmes Chapel 86

HOLMES Chapel completed the North West Intermediate League Division Five South season with an unblemished record when they hammered Winnington Park thirds on Saturday.

The visitors ran in a succession of tries, with Ally Lightfoot crossing for his first in senior rugby and Angus Morison adding to his haul for the season.

In defence Jed Wragg and Callum Grant-Smith kept Park at bay, although Chapel youngster Grant-Smith had to leave the field after losing several teeth in a tackle.

Champions Chapel now turn their attention to the Plate Cup final on May 2, where they meet Linley and Kidsgrove.

Club chairman Mike Corfield said: “To win the league is a great achievement considering where we were 18 months ago, but to do it by going the season unbeaten is the icing on the cake.

“If we could go on and win the cup final then that would obviously be the cherry on top.”
