FOUR players from the same club have reached the Jay Trophy semi finals for only the second time in the competition’s history.

Tony Crompton, Mike Roylance and Bruce Tulley, part of a Mobberley quartet to make it through in 2003, have reached the tournament’s finals night again.

This time Mark Newall joins them.

Tulley saw off holder Paul Hart (Morley), who has taken home the silverware the past two seasons.

Rod Bird, from Morley, held his nerve to pot a decisive black in the final of the Taylor Trophy.

He conquered Rob Clarke (Tatton) by a single point at Victory Hall to win the singles competition for over 55s.

Hart and holder Carl Prince (Brook Street) were the beaten semi-finalists.

In the Knutsford and District Amateur League’s top flight, Morley are favourites now to finish as runners-up following a 6-1 success against Wilmslow Cons A.

Champions Mobberley A edged Mobberley C, while Mobberley B proved too strong for relegated Shaw Heath.

Brook Street were victors at Tatton the same night.

Mere B moved five points clear at the Division Two summit following a convincing victory against title-rivals Brook Street B.

Mere A kept alive their feint hopes of finishing in a promotion position after a 5-2 win against Mere C.

Lowly Mobberley E amassed more than 300 points for the first time this season when they saw off Wilmslow Cons B, while illness forced Mobberley D to concede their scheduled fixture away at Royal London.
