KNUTSFORD continue their title charge at sixth-placed Whaley Bridge tomorrow.

The Reds, currently table toppers in the Cheshire Football League Premier Division, will bid to avenge the 3-2 home defeat to Bridge on the opening day of the season back in August

Knutsford 2 Denton Town 1

KNUTSFORD kept hopes of a Cheshire League Premier Division title alive with a win over bottom-placed Denton Town last Saturday.

Sean Lynch and Liam Myers netted for the Manchester Road outfit, after David MacDonald had put the visitors ahead.

Scott Dignan’s side are now leading the Cheshire League top flight by two points. However nearest rivals Linotype Cheadle have four games in hand.

Dignan handed a place on the bench to 17-year-old 'A' team player James Davies, with the experienced Richard Smart also named in the squad.

Knutsford started well with Thomas Rutter firing over the bar and then having an effort well saved by Denton stopper Gavin Affleck in the opening six minutes.

But Denton looked dangerous with pace up front as Phillip Cooper flashed his shot wide.

However, the visitors did take the lead 23 minutes in when MacDonald went through and held his nerve to beat Knutsford keeper John Stanway.

Myers thought he had levelled shortly after the break, only to be ruled offside, before Lynch went close on 50 minutes when he shot wide from five yards out.

Rutter then screwed an effort wide and Lee Mannion fired over from 25 yards as Reds pressed for an equaliser.

They finally got their reward when David Owens fed Lynch, who span and shot into the top corner from an acute angle with 25 minutes remaining.

The win came with 10 minutes left, this time Myers, Owens and Rutter combined for the former to rifle past Affleck. Knutsford visit Whaley Bridge on Saturday.

Knutsford: Stanway, Beattie, Torbitt, Wates, Jenyons, Rutter, Mannion (Smart), Lynch, Owens (Dignan), Myers, Morris (Davies).
