Knutsford 10 Ramsey 6
KNUTSFORD pulled off a sensational upset in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three when they beat the league leaders on Saturday, to record only their second win of the season.
The hosts trailed at the break following two Ramsey penalties, but fought back with a second-half try to claim the win.
The early exchanges saw the home side hold their lofty opponents, but it was the visitors who took the lead with a penalty goal.
Undaunted, Knutsford began to dominate the game and after a sustained period of pressure scored the first try when some quick thinking by Frazer Crawford saw him take a tap penalty and dive over in the corner. Crawford was unable to convert his own score.
Neither side looked like scoring again in the first half, until some Knutsford ill-discipline allowed the visitors to kick themselves ahead before the break.
Coach Geoff Crawford brought Giles Robertson on to increase the side’s ball carrying options and that seemed to work as they pressed for an early score.
Eventually a moment of individual skill by Stefano Spinloa saw him gather his own grubber kick to dive over and score Knutsford’s second try, which went unconverted.
Blues held off some late pressure from the league leaders to seal a valuable victory.
Knutsford are next in action at bottom side Helsby on March 28.
