Holmes Chapel 24 Prenton 0

HOLMES Chapel booked a Lighting and Building Services Cup final spot with a victory over Prenton on Saturday.

Two tries for Jed Wragg, another for Mark McEnaney and the boot of Andy Davies set up a cup final outing with Linley and Kidsgrove on May 2.

Captain Dom Moss said: “We had an absolutely astonishing defensive display. Everyone turned up with the right frame of mind and the forwards provided a great platform on which our backs could really show their class.

“We have booked our place in the final now and that is an absolutely wonderful achievement.

“Our next goal is to win next week to crown ourselves the league champions, and then to end the season unbeaten.

With the game scoreless at the break, Wragg broke the deadlock after dashing along the wing and outpacing his opposite man to score, converted by Davies.

Prop Dave Steer gave away a penalty at the other, but Prenton were unable to capitalise, a centre partnership of Mike Lightfoot and Jim Moss remaining strong.

With 10 minutes remaining Jim Bowbeer sent in Wragg for his second and Davies added the extras.

He slotted a penalty soon after to stretch Chapel’s lead further, before McEnaney made sure of the hosts’ progression when he crossed from a quick lineout. Davies converted.

Holmes Chapel return to league action at home to Bowdon on Saturday.
