MOBBERLEY racing driver Tony Hughes returns to to the track in the 24H Series at Mugello, in Italy, this weekend.

He is part of Speedworks Motorsport's driver line-up for the series' second round, which includes a 12-hour endurance race.

Ross Warburton and Ollie Jackson will share duty behind the wheel of a Ginetta G50 that the trio, together with Tom Oliphant, steered to a podium position in class during the campaign opener in Dubai.

"I can't wait to get back in the 'saddle' again," said Hughes.

"It seems like forever since we raced in Dubai, even though the car hasn't been back home for long."

A first, four-hour stint is scheduled to start at 12.30pm on Friday.

The cars will be left untouched overnight before a second eight-hour race window on Saturday, starting at 8.30am.

Hughes added: "Speedworks do a great job preparing the car and, despite the short turnaround, it will be as good as new.

"We want to make up for missing out on a podium place during the same round last season.

"Ross and I know the circuit at Mugello, and I'm sure Ollie will get up to speed quickly because he's an experienced driver. I think we have a good chance."

A field of 75 cars have registered to take part.

Hughes, who has competed in a Toyota Avensis for Speedworks in the British Touring Car Championship, announced last month that he plans to contest each of the 24H Series' six rounds in the current campaign.
