Holmes Chapel 29 Congleton 2nd 13
HOLMES Chapel clinched a vital win over neighbours and title rivals Congleton seconds on Saturday.
The hosts’ maintained their unbeaten Division Five South campaign, putting the first points on the board through flanker Callum Grant-Smith.
Andy Davies added the extras and followed up with two penalties, before Congleton were reduced to 14 for 10 minutes after a high tackle.
Chapel’s Jim Moss also found himself in the bin before the break, and a Congleton penalty soon after reduced the deficit.
Jed Wragg offloaded for winger Angus Morison to cross after the interval, with the visitors replying via their forwards.
But Chapel wrapped up the points in the final minute when Wragg weaved his way through.
“It was a great win against a tough side,” said skipper Dom Moss. “Everyone dug in and kept their discipline, allowing us to play our rugby and score tries using the pace we have in the backs.”
