Maine Road reserves 4 Egerton 2

COACH Ben Smith is confident Egerton can bounce back at the first attempt following a defeat at Maine Road in Cheshire League One on Saturday.

Chris Trowbridge and Timothy Beresford netted for the visitors, but the hosts scored four times to claim maximum points.

Egerton host Warrington Town reserves this weekend.

“We suffered from having missing personnel but we hope to have players back fit when we play next,” said Smith.

“We showed signs of struggle when going 3-2 down, but I’ve still no doubt we have a great team and squad here at Egerton.

“We look forward to getting back on the winning streak we were on a couple of weeks ago.”

The visitors enjoyed a great start at the weekend, when Beresford latched on to a deep corner to slot home at the back post in the opening 60 seconds.

Michael Evans might have made it 2-0 moments later, but a last-ditch block prevented him from adding to Egerton’s advantage.

They were made to pay when the hosts struck twice on the break to leave goalkeeper Andy Shalcross with no chance of making a save.

But the Knutsford outfit were back on terms before the break, again from a set piece, when Benjamin Burrow whipped in a free kick and Trowbridge’s deft touch took it past the keeper.

Egerton began to throw players forward in search of a winner, but were picked off by two more Maine Road counter-attacks.
