Knutsford 30 Helsby 22
TIM Reynolds-Duffy's first try for the club settled Knutsford's first win of the season in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three.
Coach Geoff Crawford praised his men for the way they came back from a losing position, despite having led 20-7 at the break.
Although the heavy pitch did not favour Knutsford’s style of running rugby, gradually the home side started to dominate.
Their pressure resulted in tries from Chiko Mwale and Dave Bell, neither converted.
Helsby responded with a converted score but two further Knutsford tries left them in command.
At the interval Crawford made a number of team changes, which gave the side fresh impetus as well as legs.
But the visitors battled hard and the game looked to be slipping away from Knutsford at 22-20 adrift.
A penalty for infringement in the ruck allowed Alex Malcolm to kick three points before Reynolds-Duffy raced away for his crucial try.
The hope is to carry forward the form into Saturday's game at Wallasey. Knutsford’s man of the match was Matt Cornes.
