Oldershaw 45 Knutsford 7

A SPIRITED display from Knutsford was not enough to secure a win at Oldershaw on Saturday.

Ashley Parkinson managed the visitors’ only try as they struggled to recover from the loss of two players to injury.

Blues began brightly, but once the home team established control their pressure was rewarded with two converted scores.

A fine run by Ric Jones almost led to a Knutsford reply, but he was stopped short of the line.

From the resulting maul, hooker Simon Warman suffered a knee injury that meant he could take no further part.

The second half began with the visitors again on the front foot and, following a thrilling run, centre Parkinson scored between the posts to reduce their arrears.

It spurred them on, but they were unable to convert their possession into points.

During the contest’s final quarter, Oldershaw made the most of their superior numbers to run in five more unanswered tries.

Knutsford battled to the end, and were unlucky not to add to their points tally.

Coach Geoff Crawford was full of praise for the manner in which his side had performed given the difficulties they faced.

They will hope to bounce back when Oxton Parkonians visit the Academy this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Knutsford welcome new players to training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at Booths Hall, from 7.15pm.
