TOFT won the Chapel Press Over 40s play-off for the first time when they beat holders Urmston by 37 runs in Sunday’s final at Chester.

The Knutsford outfit compiled an above par 161-2, with Simon Locke and Toby Drummond both retiring on 31.

Urmston, depleted by injuries, mustered a disappointing 124-6 in reply with Steve Cartwright (30) and Andy Newton (27) making the biggest individual contributions.

Darren Cook and Chris Hind took two wickets each.

The Man of the Match award went to Hind following an economical tone-setting spell of 2-16, while the Champagne Moment prize went to teammate John Sheldon for as a reward for a fine outfield catch.

Earlier the same day, Toft had beaten Cheadle by 22 runs in the semi finals after Drummond (33) and Locke (31) had again top-scored.

Drummond followed that with figures of 5-21, including three wickets in four balls, as their opponents succumbed to 109 all out.
