NEW boss Scott Dignan is determined to give Knutsford a cutting edge back.

The 36-year-old meets his players for the first time tomorrow, Thursday, after being offered his first managerial position by chairman Jimmy Evans.

And the former Whaley Bridge defender believes Manchester Road is the perfect place to start a career in the dugout.

“It was too good an opportunity to turn down,” he said on Monday.

“The state of the club is perfect and everything behind the scenes is fantastic.

“Winning the league is where we’ll set our sights but it’s not all about football – you’ve got to get a team believing in themselves.

“Sometimes they can’t always play pretty football – which Knutsford are known for – and they have to have a cutting edge.”

Dignan will bring coaches Craig Flurry and James Holden with him, and has vowed to shake things up in the dressing room if he thinks it’s necessary.

“I’ve got two good lads coming with me,” he added.

“The team behind the scenes will be of huge benefit to the players.

“We are all hands on and have been involved in football from an early age, so will lead by example.

“There’s not a lot wrong with the team; there’s not much that needs changing, but I’ve spoken to the players and they need someone who can make decisions and is not worried about upsetting anyone.”
