KNUTSFORD reached the table’s summit in the Cheshire Alliance second tier following a five-wicket defeat of guests Offerton on Saturday.
They dismissed the visitors to Mereheath Lane for 154 thanks to a five-wicket haul for John Sheldon, supported by Adnan Ghazanfar (3-30) and David Molloy (2-44).
Knutsford appeared in trouble after losing openers Adnan Shafiq and Ben Cook cheaply before Nahid Ullah responded with a solid 22.
Ghazanfar then made his way to an unbeaten 71 in a knock that included seven fours and three sixes, complemented by 36 for Sheldon’s as the hosts eased to their target at 157-5.
Knutsford’s seconds beat their Groves counterparts by eight wickets in Division Four.
Their opponents posted 150-7, but veteran John Sheridan (72no) anchored his side to victory.
