AN international player from Knutsford has missed out on a World Cup medal for the second successive World Cup.
Alastair Brogdon was on the pitch when England were beaten by Argentina in a play-off match for third place, condemning him to the same fate suffered after a defeat against the Netherlands four years ago.
The Dutch, tournament hosts, ended England’s run at the semi finals stage this time around.
Brogdon, who plays for Wimbledon, had hit the net in his side’s opening game – a 1-1 draw with Spain.
Wins against India (2-1) and Malaysia (2-0) followed before a five-goal thrashing by eventual champions Australian.
A 3-2 victory against Belgium in the final group stage encounter set up a last four date with the Netherlands.
