TOFT played their part in a competitive draw at home to Neston in the Vivio Cheshire County League ECB Premier Division on Saturday.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Knutsford outfit suffered the loss of both openers early in their innings.

However a third-wicket stand worth 182 runs between Rob Jones and Henry Hughes showed a maturity beyond their young years.

Hughes eventually fell for 92 and Jones was dismissed for 112 on the last ball of the innings as Toft finished on 254-7 off their 55 overs.

In response Neston also lost early wickets during a tight opening spell from Asif Saleem, who took 3-24 from 11 overs.

The away side fought back with a century partnership between Dane Williams (47) and Luke Camden (93) before losing late wickets that meant all three results were still possible.

Neston eventually finished on 231-8, with slow bowler Jimmy Lomas contributing 3-92 for Toft.

The men from Booth’s Park dominated their opening Red Insure T20 group stage game on Thursday at Poynton, where they restricted the hosts to 70-9.

Saleem led the attack with 3-9 supported by Joe Stanley (2-12), Lomas (2-15) and the impressive Harri Dickenson (2-6).

In reply, Toft chased down the runs inside 14 overs with Jake Hancock’s unbeaten 24 and Adam Green’s 17 not out building on a foundation laid by opener Atif Bajwa while he racked up a quick-fire 21.

In Saturday’s second team fixture Toft were comfortable victors against Neston, climbing to the Premier Division summit as a reward.

After winning the toss, skipper Paul Ashley put Neston into bat and bowled them out for 123 off 44 overs. Ashley captured 3-36 and Ahmed 3-21.

Toft knocked off the required runs in 30 overs, finishing on 127-5 with Sam Hatcher contributing a fine 47.
