ADAM Jenkinson narrowly missed out on a podium place at home circuit Oulton Park, but promised further improvement in the season’s remainder.

The Knutsford rider, on board a Team Direct CCTV SBR-prepared Kawasaki, placed fourth in the Pirelli Superstock 1000 National Championship race at the Little Budworth track.

It leaves him third in the riders’ standings after two rounds.

“It’s nice to get some solid points to take to the next round,” he said afterwards.

“The bike is working well, though I think we can tweak a few things before we race again.

“It’s a new team and everybody is working well together. In time, we can make good progress.”

On track, Danny Buchan made it two wins from as many races with a lap record-breaking runaway victory aboard the Tsingtao WK Kawasaki as he headed off Honda’s Jason O’Halloran by more than five seconds in a spring cut short by a red flag on the penultimate lap.

Dave Johnson took third ahead of Jenkinson.

“We had a good weekend with a solid set-up and fast lap times,” added the Bucklow Hill-based ace.

“I got a good start in the race and felt I could push at the front.

“I battled with Dave and was feeling strong for a podium. I just missed out, but there are positives to take from the weekend.”

The series resumes at Snetterton next month.

By then team boss Steve Brogan is confident Jenkinson will be closer still to the front-runners.

He said: “Adam will win a race before long.

“There is a buzz in the awning that I’ve not experience in many teams I’ve been part of down the years. We’ll regroup now and make sure we’re ready for the next round at Snetterton.”

Round three is on June 15.
